This article features the best electronic ultrasonic rat & mouse repellent we found. We’ve also discussed on the rationale behind how electronic rodent repellents work, what’s our thoughts and what are some of the things to note when using one.
How Ultrasonic Mouse Repellers Work?
Ultrasonic repeller repels rodents by injecting intense auditory stress to the environment (achieved through what is known as the animal behavior modification).
Ultrasound is a frequency of sound too high to be heard by humans but is able to irritate rodents. Using non-repetitive frequency levels, it causes discomfort that rodents are not able to become habituated to (some frequency replicates the sound of a dominant male rodent which discourages these territorial pest from inhabiting a territory).
Unlike rodent poisons or traps, ultrasound does not kill or capture but seek to provide a long-term reduction in rodent population by creating an unfriendly environment that deters and discourages rat & mice infestations.

Ultrasonic frequencies also can’t pass through walls, hence multiple units need to be placed in multiple rooms.
Final Thoughts
Some believe that all other baits and traps should be removed since it makes no sense to repel and lure at the same time, and that their combined usage will lead to nothing.

We think that simply plugging in an Ultrasonic repeller is not enough to send rodents running for the door and out into cold especially when there’s food & shelter in the house. It is essential to also incorporate traps and baits in conjunction with Ultrasonic devices (also, the sound waves cause rodents to scurry around, driving them right into the traps).
Ultrasonic Mouse Repellers (manufactured properly) can work to a certain extend in deterring rodents and even some insects. However, they are likely to only deter rodents for a short period of time until they find out how to avoid or simply adapt to the noise.
